1-800-GENOCIDE is an avenue to directly influence the policy of the Canadian Government towards the crisis in Darfur. With your help, the student organization STAND aims to reach a target of 1000 calls/month to key Members of Parliament.
How the system works
When callers in Canada dial in to 1-800-436-6243 (GENOCID) they will have a choice of several key Members of Parliament, and a chance to listen to suggested talking points for each MP. Participants then leave a message with a staffer or on a voicemail, expressing their concerns about the crisis in Darfur and asking for action from the Canadian Government. They have the choice to re-enter the system to leave another message for a different MP.
STAND Canada is a national student organization dedicated to inspiring student activism and advocacy addressing the crisis in Darfur. The organization is a leader in grassroots Darfur activism, mobilizing students and concerned citizens to take action on Darfur.
1-800-GENOCIDE was launched on October 15, 2007 and will be in operation for as long as it takes to change Canadian policy towards Darfur. It is brought to Canadians by STAND Canada with the collaboration of GI-NET.
